--History of the Rainier Rod and Gun Club--
(From their website, see link below)

The gun club first organized at the old farmers' hall in 1947. It then moved to the present location in 1949, long before most of the houses were built in that area.

We are continuing to teach Hunter Safety classes twice a year, hold trap shoots at least twice a month, have a covered rifle and pistole range, and are proud to be an active part of our community.

The Club has been a significant place of interest in the community, working with such organizations as the FFA, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Young Life, local Churches and local Granges. Two of our club members went on to become Olympic shooters.

In 1973 the club was instrumental in proving to the States of Oregon that some 22 caliber center fire rifles would work for the hunting of deer, and act that still is used to this day.
